Flooring Services We Offer In Brisbane

Sanding and polishing timber floors

Sanding timber floors

Sanding is a crucial step in the restoration process for your standard wooden floors. Our experienced flooring professionals are experts in the floor sanding process and use advanced sanding equipment to remove scratches, stains and imperfections from the surface.

By using a floor sander on your timber, we create a smooth and even base, ready for the next phase of the restoration process.

Polishing Timber Floors

Once your floors have been sanded, our team applies a high-quality polish to bring out the natural beauty and lustre of the wood.

We offer a range of finishes in either Solvent Based Polish or Water Base Polish offering a range of finishes in matt, Semi Gloss, Satin or Gloss, allowing you to choose the perfect look for your home’s interior aesthetics.

With our extensive years of experience we bring a high level skill set to complete your floors and leave you with beautifully polished timber floors that enhance your living spaces in your home.

Sanding and polishing cork floors

Cork floors are known for their unique texture, warmth, and eco-friendly properties. Over time, however, cork floors can become scratched, worn or faded.

Sanding is the first step in the restoration process, where professional-grade equipment is used to carefully remove the top layer of the cork surface, eliminating imperfections (where possible) and create a smooth, even surface.

This prepares the floor for polishing, which involves the application of high-quality sealants and finishes specifically designed for cork flooring.

The polish enhances the unique beauty of the cork, bringing out its rich tones and providing a protective layer that guards against stains, spills and daily wear.

Sanding and polishing parquetry floors

Parquetry floor sanding and polishing is a specialised process that aims to restore and enhance the beauty of parquet flooring.

Parquetry floors are unique and intricate, comprised of small wooden pieces arranged in various patterns. However, they can become worn, scratched or faded over time.

Sanding is the first step in the restoration process, where the top layer of the floor is carefully removed, eliminating imperfections and creating a smooth, even surface.

This prepares the parquet floor for the application of high-quality finishes and sealants. The polish adds a luxurious sheen to the floor and provides a layer to protect the timber from daily wear and tear. After some years when coatings start to dull down a maintenance coat of polish should be applied by us to prolong the life of your floors. Re coats prevent re sanding and does not produce any dust as there is no re sanding of the timber. A re coat only takes one day to do and the floors can be walked on 24hours later.

Benefits of sanding and polishing interior timber floors

Restored Beauty

Sanding and polishing your wooden floors can breathe new life into your home. The process removes scratches, marks and stains, revealing the natural beauty of the timber and giving your floors a fresh and rejuvenated appearance.

Increased Property Value

When considering the value of a property, the decision of alternative floor installation in place of your existing floor is a big one.

Professionally sanded and polished floors can increase the value of your property. Potential buyers are often drawn to the timeless elegance and warmth that timber floors bring to a home.

Easy Maintenance

Polished timber floors are straightforward to maintain. The smooth surface prevents dirt, dust, and allergens from getting trapped, making cleaning a breeze.

Regular dust pick up with an anti static dry mop and occasional damp mopping will keep your floors looking pristine, allowing you to spend more time enjoying your home and less time on extensive upkeep.

Improved Durability

Through the floor sanding and polishing process, your floors receive an added layer of protection. The polish acts as a shield, safeguarding the wood from daily wear and tear, spills and stains.

This enhanced durability means that your floors will maintain their beauty and integrity for years to come, reducing the need for frequent repairs or replacement of old floors.

Got Questions? We've Got Answers –
Frequently Asked Questions

A: Some floors will last 20 years, others a lot less. A lot of factors come into how long a floor will last but typically high traffic areas will require a maintenance coat sooner than say bedrooms which can last 20 years as they are not a high traffic area of the home.

How do you know when to do a maintenance coat?  When your floors start to look dull or when you mop them they look drab this is a sign you need to get a maintenance coat done. This involves us cutting back the top surface of the polish and applying a new coat of Polish. This takes one day to do but will add many years to the life of your floors again. It is a refresh for your floors and can make floors look new again. If floors are allowed to wear too far then you may need to do a complete re sand – this is why it is important to keep up with maintenance coatings on polished timber floors – it will prevent re sanding in most cases.

The time frame between sanding and polishing is usually several years, if done correctly, but can drastically reduce the need for brand new flooring or floorboard replacement down the track.

Some signs your hardwood floors may need a touch-up include:

  • Dulling of polish
  • Scuffing on floors
  • Changes in wood texture/sun affected

A: Although it might seem a thrifty decision to take part in a DIY project, if you’re not experienced using equipment such as floor sanders this can end up costing you MORE money in the long-run! It takes many years of training to become skilled in all aspects of sanding and polishing of floors. This is not a job you can do yourself and make your floors look beautiful and professionally finished. The cost of hiring all the required machinery, coatings and sandpaper is not cheap and added to this you will not be able to sand the floors correctly and risk damaging them to an extent we cannot repair the damage fully. Coating applications takes considerable skill to achieve a consistent even finish. We do not recommend anyone attempts to sand the floors of their home. Why risk damaging your timber floors which are a big overall visible part of your home.

A: A floor sanding and polishing job obviously varies depending on the size and complexity of the project. However, most floors will require multiple coats and will generally take 3-5 days to complete, depending on drying time of the final coat.

Our job is to get the job done right, without cutting any corners and this takes a certain amount of time to achieve. We do not rush jobs and always like to have an extra day in case we need it.

  • Ensuring power is available to connect the equipment
  • Sealing off any openings creating air drafts.
  • Close windows in rooms not being treated so not draft is present.
  • Covering any light fittings that hang down and are not easy to clean.
  • Remove Curtains or tie up.
  • Pull up blinds
  • Cover wall mounted televisions.
  • Make sure all floor coverings have been removed along with staples/nails.

A: The duration depends on the size and condition of your floors. We usually complete most jobs within a week. However, we will provide a more accurate timeline during the initial consultation.

A: At D.R. Main Floors, we use heavy duty machinery with dust extraction but it is not dustless. While some dust is inevitable, we do our utmost to minimise its presence and clean up after the job is done. Our clients are usually very happy with the end result which is minimal dust and beautiful  looking floors.
